IGNORANCE PREVAILS...

I chose Kerry so when you can't find/lose your job, you can't afford health care or anything for that matter...don't blame me! Blame the ignorance of America and the right-wing-machine's effectiveness over controlling them.

Mr Wynn's got the best job [Oct. 27th, 2004|02:05 pm]
Mr. Wynn is one of my dad's good friends from back in the day (college). While we were up in Cincinnati this past summer we had friendly disagreements with Mr. Wynn. He's a conservative but we still like him (ha ha). We messed with each other back and forth about our candidates. I made him a kerry 04' sign and put it on his car for him to find the next morning at the hotel and in return he just made fun of kerry at any chance. He commented that he was just glad that Brent and I were passionate about something and he didn't really care who we were for (you know how some people can get). Anyway, he called just a few minutes ago to talk with dad and he said "i met your goob friend." And i was like "who??". And he was like "that Fahrenheit guy". And so of course i was like, no way! Michael Moore had been up in his office a few minutes before he called. Mr. Wynn's got an AWESOME job working for Comair. He gets to meet all kinds of people. I let Mr. Wynn know that i was jealous it wasn't me meeting Michael. I asked if he took a picture for me and he jokingly said "No, i dind't really ever want to be seen in public with him." He said that if he was still around the office when MM left Cincin tonight he'd get a picture of him posing for me or holding a sign with my name on it. I hope he sees him again! I want my picture...he he.

FOX is going down [Jul. 20th, 2004|01:10 pm]
[mood | excited]
[music |tripping daisy - elastic firecracker]

Brent and I joined Moveon.org when we signed up for the Michael Moore house party we attended a while back. Ever since we've been getting emails asking us to write to different people about important topics that are coming up. The latest one sent was asking us to send comments to the FTC (which Moveon will also send to other important figures) asking them to stop FOX News from mis-advertising themselves as "fair and balanced". Here's the directions followed by the comment I wrote.

Directions: You can now ask the FTC to order Fox News to stop misleading consumers. The FTC's job is to protect consumers from deceptive advertising on the part of big media companies. Please enter your name, email address, zip code, and your personal comment below. We'll deliver these messages to the FTC and to other political leaders.

My comment:
FOX is and has been misleading the public for too long now. FOX is misrepresenting themselves as "fair and balanced" news. If news is going to be "fair and balanced" it MUST have NO right or left tendencies. FOX news has slipped too far right to be labeled as "fair and balanced". If they are going to continue mixing in right-wing propaganda with the news they should not be allowed to mislead the American people by continuing to post their slogan "fair and balanced". People cannot make informed opinions, views, and decisions based on news that is one sided. FOX, in using their slogan "fair and balanced", is feeding into the American peoples' ignorance. Many Americans believe FOX is delivering them the whole truth about the news when in fact they are swinging it in favor of the right-winged group. In doing this they are endangering the intelligence of the American people. Misrepresentation of this kind is incredibly harmful to the proper function of our democracy. FOX news is being negligent and they must be stopped. Calling FOX News "fair and balanced" is false advertising and last time i checked that was illegal! Please don't allow them to continue lying to their viewers. The truth needs to come out in these important times.

Last night Brent and I started watching "Outfoxed". It's a documentary exposing FOX for what it is, right-wing news. I only caught the beginning because it was really late and I was really tired. I'm going to try and watch it tonight. I'm sure we're going to continue digging up more and more in this election year and i can't wait! It's so exciting to see the truth pop out after its been hiding for so long. I'm ready for BUSH and party to crumble (crossing fingers tightly)!!

Brent and I are leaving tomorrow morning for our summer road trip. We're going to be going to Memphis,TN; Cincinnati, OH; Hopkinsville, KY; Sandusky, OH; Detroit, MI; and into Canada! It's going to last 12 days so we'll be back on Sunday August 1. I'm so excited to leave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure Brent will have a more detailed itinerary posted some time so i'm not going to even bother getting into what we are going to do. You can read it on his lj (ohyeah).

Defend America Defeat Bush (we picked up some bumper stickers that read this slogan) [Jun. 30th, 2004|11:42 am]
Well, Brent and I went and saw Fahrenheit 911 on opening night last weekend with Jeremy, Paul, Charlie, Dustin, Kelli, and Anna. It was AMAZING just as expected. Talk about take a run on your emotions. It was really funny AND really sad. We're going to see it AGAIN tonight (with Joey and Ashely I think)! I can't wait because I'm sure there are things that I missed the first time or just have forgotten were included. Monday Brent, Paul, and I went to New Orleans for a House Party called "turn up the heat". It was pretty fun. There was about 100 people there all listening to a live feed of Michael Moore speaking out to us and answering a few questions. We were joined by more than 4,600 other house parties totaling about 55,000 people all over the US listening to Mike speak. It was pretty neat. It didn't last as long as we had expected but it was fun going and seeing all the different people who attended the party. I got a few complements on my shirt (the F911 one I made). Some old lady with a cute accent (from (paul says) probably either Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, or South America) got me to stand up so she could show her husband. It was funny. She wanted to know where she could buy some. It's nice to see so many people who know what's really going on and be so interested to attend something hosted by Moveon.org (which Brent and I now belong to). We're going to post our pictures from the party to the moveon cite tonight. I'll probably post them here later too. I hope work goes by quickly because I'm ready to go watch the movie!!

Fahrenheit 9/11 - MUST SEE JUNE 25th [Jun. 21st, 2004|10:09 pm]
Brent and I have been getting heavy in the politics lately. It's never really been a topic of interest for me but here lately I've learned A LOT!! I got to listen to "book on tape" of Michael Moore's two books "Dude, Where's My Country?" and "Stupid White Men". I've actually been through the second half of "Dude..." about 3 times and i'm half way through my second listening of "Stupid..." right now. It's crazy what things are going on right now and I never knew before (like a lot of ignorant Americans). Anyway, I'm not going to get into it all right now. But, JUNE 25th Fahrenheit 9/11 is coming to theaters. It's going to be SO awesome! I can't wait to see it and see it again. YOU MUST GO SEE THIS MOVIE. If you care AT ALL about what is going on with this country you will be there to see with your own eyes.

So, about the pictures. I enjoy making things and usually I'm working on some kind of project. When we found out about MM's new movie i wanted to make this shirt to promote the movie. It took me a while to finish because all the non-word graphics used to be letters that i cut into the shapes i wanted to make the flames and the wing.

For those of you going, "Why is there a wing on her sleeve!?" It's my "left wing" duuuuuuh...he he. I'm know, my brother's already informed me that I'm a dork. I think it's cute though..he he. Hope you enjoy. GO SEE THE MOVIE FRIDAY!!!

YES! [May. 17th, 2004|03:12 pm]
OHHHHHH YEAAAAAAAH! I went into my econ 2035 final exam knowing i only needed a 53 to keep my B (98% to get an A which i thought would be impossible) in the class so all i did was look over the old tests a few times and skimmed the notes once. I didn't learn anything new the night before the test. I planned on just taking good guesses. Well this morning when i checked my grade i saw that some how i managed to pull off an 88% (i guess i knew more than i thought i did). On top of that Brent imed me today while i was at work and told me that he checked my final grades and i got an A in econ. YES! AN A IN ECON. So, i came out with 3 B's and 2 A's...better than what i had expected. I'm so glad it's summer time. Brent and i have a million things planned for this summer: vacations to Ft. Walton, Kentucky/Ohio, Lake Tahoe, and possibly Dallas if we get a job my dad's working on right now (that will allow us to live over there for a bit during the summer doing an imaging job. It's still up in the air right now though.) We've got a few houses to watch, which include an old neighbor of mine (next week) and Mrs. Jean's (the first week in June). It should be an exciting summer and i'm sure it'll pass too quickly. I gotta get back to work. Bye

HAPPY 420 [Apr. 20th, 2004|02:11 pm]
Today was our last morning at Mrs. Jeans. We had a great time house sitting minus all the cleaning we did Sunday. It's nice being able to get away over there and not worry about any bills while doing it =) I can't wait for their next trip. Hope Baby doesn't miss us too bad. Brent said she already was this mornin when he left.

Tonight we're celebrating my, Lori, and Kari's birthdays over at Brent's so that should be fun. After we're supposedly going to the Spanish Moon to celebrate the day (4-20). I can't wait for this week to be over (more so i can't wait to get my last accounting test over with this friday). It's ganna be ON after that one. I have a lot of work to do this week for school.

I can't wait for summer. I'm REALLY getting excited about our trip to Kentucky and Ohio!! It's not till late July but we'll be talking about it all summer i'm sure. Brent's already started...he he.

I need to work on my speech for Thursday before accounting class starts at 3.

BIRTHDAY GIRL [Apr. 8th, 2004|06:30 pm]
It was my birthday Monday. Happy 20th to me. Brent and I went to the beach Sunday night and Monday. We only went over to Biloxi but we got to stay at the Beau Rivage which was awesome. It's just like a miniature Bellagio. It was pretty pretty. I love the beach. It was a good birthday, just me and my baby. Spring Break is flying by but that's ok because starting this Saturday until the 20th we're house sitting for Mrs. Jean so that's like a vacation. I can't wait till this summer comes and we can go to the REAL beach over in Destin. ITS ALMOST HERE!!

xmas eve [Dec. 24th, 2003|12:17 pm]
[mood | anxious]
[music |Christmas music is playing throughout the entire house]

Christmas is finally here. On December 8th (beginning of exams) it felt like it was NEVER coming. It still doesn't really feel like xmas is tomorrow though. We've been so busy over the holidays running around all over the place i haven't really sat down and waited for it to come like i usually do. I've got to start getting ready. Brent and i are going with Mandy and Mark to Grammercy (sp) to see the bonfires around 4. Then we're coming back here tonight to go to his Aunt Linda's, then to midnight mass with my family tonight. I would normally dread sitting through an hour of some man talking while my eyes drift the room the whole time but i enjoy going to midnight mass on xmas eve. All the lights in the church, except the candles, are off for about half the service so it's very peaceful. Then half way through the light come on and everyone rings bells that they brought with them. That happens during 'Gloria' i believe. I'm not quite sure though. Anyway, tomorrow i gotta wake up early to do presents and see what Santa brought. Around 10, Brent, his parents, Mrs. Jean, Mr. Charles, and Mrs. Monty are all coming over to have a HUGE brunch feast my parents are cooking. MMMmMMmMM my mouth waters just thinking about it. Brent and i are also opening our presents christmas morning..he he. After that we're going to Kari's (Brent's sisters) to do xmas with them, then back to his Aunt Linda's for an early dinner. After all that who knows where we'll end up. Probably playing with our new toys somewhere. I can't wait for Brent to open his presents. i love surprises. Alright, time to start getting myself ready for the day. Merry Christmas to everyone.

picture of Harland shirt [Oct. 20th, 2003|08:35 pm]
Well, i've procrastinated writing about our WONDERFUL trip to Atlanta and the DELERIUM/ CONJURE ONE concert that was completely amazing! And, i'm going to do it some more because i don't have much time to write right now. But, i do wanna post a link (below) to the shirt i made after seeing Shelley Harland perform for Delerium. She's got a beautiful voice and beautiful appearance...she's just GREAT all around. We got to talk to her and Kristy Thirsk after the concert. It was an unbelievable night i will cherish forever.

I posted the same link on her message board and she loved it as well as other fans that post on her website =)
*more update on that when i actually have time to reminisce*

(no subject) [Sep. 24th, 2003|11:42 am]
Hello. I'm at work right now. I work at CMA. It's a company my dad used to work for and still does computer consulting for. I just scan papers all day. It's pretty repetitive but i'm not really bothered by jobs like that. I get 6 bucks an hour. So, its a paycheck i wasn't getting before. I'm REALLY glad i got this job! It definitely beats sitting at home M/W/F without anything to do wasting away all my money. I have a little radio that i listen to while i'm working so it's not completely quiet in this room of mine. I gotta get a better one though. I want a little boom box, that way i'll have one for our short trips over to the beach as well. Right now i'm using my alarm clock and it barely picks up any stations. I'm pretty much stuck with 96.1 the river. I have a nice view of the retirement home across the street. It looks like a really expensive hotel. I bet it's nice inside and expensive to put someone in.

Last night was a disappointment. Brent, Paul, Dustin, and I got all the way down to the Howlin Wolf in New Orleans to find out that the Polyphonic Spree concert was canceled due to death in a family. I was SO ready to get out of the car and watch them! The note left of the door said they'd reschedule soon, so hopefully we can make that show. I can't complain though because Brent and i are leaving Friday mornin for Atlanta! I'm so excited.

I've had a million things to do this week. Monday i worked from 9-5 as usual, went to visit my mom at the hospital because she had surgery, then studied all night for my Isds 2000 test on tuesday and for some biology which is tomorrow (thursday). Tuesday i woke up at 8 o'clock for my isds test at 730! i was panicked to say the least. Of course, i was freaking out thinking i'd blown my chance to start off isds with an A cause i knew ALL the material. After i calmed down and left the house i called Brent cause he was calling to see why my away message still said sleeping. He assured me she was nice and would allow me to take it with the 9 oclock class (he had her for the same class a few semesters ago). I got up to school around 8:45 and went to my class to tell my teacher that my car wouldn't start. And she was VERY nice and said it's ok, you can take it with the next class if you're alright to take it. So, i sat outside the class and waited for her to let the next group in. I took my test in about 30 minutes. Then, headed over to bio and the kid next to me offered me his notes from the beginning of class which was nice. Then i went to econ, lunch, made a trip to port allen with Brent for some goodies, then home to start studying again. Brent came over after his last class and took a nap before we were off to N.O. Dustin and Paul met up with us and we left. The trip was cut short when we had to turn around after we got there. I guess i really needed sleep anyway. But, it would have been AWESOME to see them in concert. Brent stayed over for a while then i crashed. Today i'm working until 5 again. I have to learn all of bio and econ when i get home because i have tests in both tomorrow. After my tests tomorrow i have to come home, start packing, get my pay check, tutor math, and go meet up with Brent so we can get his sister's vehicle and his back to his house. I'm ganna be up ALL night tomorrow trying to get everything ready for the weekend. I'm SO excited for friday that i can't really even think about it because if i do i'll NEVER get all this studying done that i have to do.

I can't wait till 12:00 tomorrow. Hopefully i'll feel good about my tests after i take them. I haven't even started on Econ. I didn't do so good on the last econ, but this ones supposed to be easier. So, we'll see. I gotta get off of here, i'm supposed to be scanning. I'm hungry, wonder what i should go get to eat...maybe subway again. Blimpies needs to expand their chain and build more! They're so much better than subway. Alright, i'm sure i'll write again when i get back from Atlanta, after seeing Delerium and Conjure One and have a million things to say about the trip. i love vacations!

Las Vegas Vacation [Aug. 18th, 2003|05:18 pm]
I started this journal august 6th and just now got around to finishing it. I had to postpone entering it until I got all the pictures from Brent so I could remember what happened each day then I procrastinated finishing it. So, here it is:

Hello. My family, Brent, and I just got back from visiting Las Vegas yesterday. We left last Thursday for a long weekend vacation before school starts back up. We had an awesome time! I can't wait to go back.
Thursday when we arrived, after we unloaded our luggage, we walked down half of the strip checking out some of the hotels and casinos. There were lights everywhere, it was so pretty. Of course Brent and I were snapping pictures like CRAZY (you will see when his site is up and running). We made our way down to the Venetian (which we re-visited later in the week because it was so interesting). The ceilings were very elaborate on the second floor with paintings and moldings covering it. On the first floor there was a canal running through the middle of it where you could take boat rides. After looking inside for a bit we turned back to get some sleep.

Friday morning we woke up pretty early and had a big breakfast at our hotel’s breakfast/lunch bar. After breakfast my parents dropped Brent and I went off by New York New York while they went to pick up Michael from the airport. (He came in later than us because of work). We headed into New York New York to see about riding the roller coaster there. The coaster wraps around the outside of casino and hotel twisting and looping around through what looks like New York City. All the hotel rooms are built to appear as buildings in down town New York City. It’s a very unique looking hotel and casino. We decided not to ride the roller coaster right then because it was drizzling outside. After we played around in the arcade there we went over the cross walk to MGM. We each bought a shirt at the rainforest café they have inside the casino. We didn’t have a whole lot of time left to look around so we headed back down to the Bellagio where we were meeting my parents and Michael. We met up with them and watched our first fountain show. There were thousands of jets dancing to the music put out of the speakers that surrounded the Bellagio fountain. It was amazing. The fountains were all choreographed perfectly. It was beautiful. After the show we headed inside the Bellagio. We ate some very tasty Italian ice cream then toured through the casino. They had this one room with a magnificent stairwell leading to the next story and the whole room was covered with flowers. They were so vibrant and colorful they looked almost fake. In the center of the room there was a small rock bed with a few jets imbedded in it. The water would shoot out of each jet in different patterns, bouncing off of each other in mid air. They were so precise that about six streams of water what shoot out at the same time and splash into each other right in the center. It’s kind of hard to describe what it looked like but it was pretty neat. After we left the Bellagio we went to Caesar’s palace. We shopped for a little bit inside until Brent and I decided to head off and try riding the roller coaster at New York New York again. We ended up riding on this carriage type thing pulled by a biker. It was a pretty far walk from where we were and we didn’t want to use up all of our energy just walking. The bikers were everywhere. It was a free service but they were working for tips. So, it was an easy way to get down to the end of the strip without tiring us out. We go dropped off at the Coke store then snacked on a pretzel and nachos at the M and M’s store. I bought a cute pair of coke shorts. After shopping we went back to New York New York and road the roller coaster. It went upside down which I didn’t expect. It was a pretty good ride. Considering it was 12 dollars to ride I better have enjoyed it..he he. Later that night we attended a magic show in our hotel. It was very entertaining, more than I expected.

Saturday my we went to Hoover dam. It's SO big and astounding. We took the tour down into the dam and saw all the generators and everything. It baffles me how they built that so long ago and it only took four years. Similar to the Grand Canyon it's hard to take a picture of how BIG it is. After Hoover my parents dropped Brent and I off at the Luxor. That’s the one that looks like an Egyptian pyramid with a spot light in the top that you can see from miles and miles away at night. We went in there and road three virtual Imax rides. After Luxor we took a tram to the Excalibur and played around in their arcade and looked around. After that we went back to the MGM because we had missed seeing the lions they have on display. You can walk through this glass tunnel that goes through where the lions are. At the time two of the lions were laying on top of the glass walkway so you could see them UP close. We ended up covering a lot of the strip this night. We visited the Tropicana and watched a free show of these chicks dancing around then these two guys flying and swinging from the ceiling. We caught a night fountain show. This time the music was singing in the rain. The fountain shows at night are even prettier than during the day because of all the lights in the water. After the show we went across the street to check out the Paris hotel and casino. After looking around for a bit we went back to the Bellagio to catch one last water show. “America the Beautiful” was the tune and It was by far the best water show we saw. Being such a patriotic song I guess they were trying to really show off. The fountains were shooting SO high and beautiful. By this time we were starving and had our hearts set on Arby’s. By the time we got to the end of the strip, which was miles away from where we started, Arby’s was closed!! So, we gave up and sat in the parking lot and waited for my parents to come pick us up. I couldn’t walk any farther I was so starved. They picked us up and we got some food then went back to our hotel for the night.

Sunday my parents, Brent, and I woke up around 7:30 to head out to the Grand Canyon (Michael stayed back at the hotel in Vegas for the day). I've been there years ago with my family on a summer trip out west, but Brent had never seen it so we decided to go. It took us about 4 and a half-5 hours to get out there. The scenery was nothing but desert and mountains most of the way. The drive went by quickly and we arrived there around 12:30. The air there was much cooler than in Las Vegas. In the shade it was almost chilly but in standing in the sun you'd break a sweat. The canyon was beautiful. It's so massive no picture can capture what you actually see when you are there. We spent a few hours there taking MANY pictures and getting a little too close to the edges. The canyon drops down a mile and is miles and MILES across at parts. You can step up to any edge and look over and see the ground a mile under you, it's crazy (not to mention dangerous). It's definitely a view! We had a few snacks there and took more and more pictures. We headed back to Vegas and arrived back around 10. Driving into Vegas is really amazing. You ride over a hill and out of nowhere pops this HUGE area of lights, lights, and nothing but LIGHTS! Nothing is surrounding it because it's in the middle of the desert, so it's this huge circle of lights provided by energy from the Hoover Dam. We got back, shopped at a few shops, and then crashed in bed.

Monday, our last day, we met up with my grand parents and Aunt (they were on vacation there at the same time) for breakfast. After breakfast my mom, Brent, and I went shopping for souvenirs and went down to the Venetian to get a better look at it inside and out. We shopped around in there, of course only window-shopping those stores that have glass balloons for 6,000 dollars a PIECE! We watched a few magic tricks performed at the magic store then left and shopped all the way back to our hotel. On our way back we passed two traveling guys smokin it up right next to us on the strip. After we passed them up we ended up stopping at a pedestrian signal (the red hand was up, indicating STOP). They caught up with us and instead of stopping they decided to go ahead and cross because there was no traffic passing and mom said, "that's what you get when you smoke pot, you jaywalk." It was a running joke the rest of the trip. She's so goofy sometimes. We met up with my grand parents at 7:00 for dinner down at Fremont Street. They all went to a buffet and Brent and I went to a subway in one of the hotels. Fremont Street is where Las Vegas ALL started. It used to be a road lined with all the first hotels and casinos. Now it's a big walkway, still surround by the casinos and hotels, and is covered by a canopy of millions of lights. Every half hour after dark, a light show comes on. We watched three of them while we were down there (took lots of pictures of that too). The first one was a disco theme that I missed most of because I was buying a painting (Brent and I watched this guy paint with spray paint onto posters while everyone else was finishing up eating. I bought the one we watched him do the first time, and I love it so much.) The second show was a rock and roll theme, I liked it the best. The last show we saw was about tropical paradise. After that show we headed back to our hotel. Brent and I got dropped off at the Stratosphere. It's a hotel and casino that's a huge tower that has an observation deck at the top. We rode to the top of the tower then got onto the "big shot" and got shot even higher into the sky about four times. It's the tallest thrill ride in the world. I lost my stomach during free fall on the tower at universal and six flags, not to mention on those you were shot from the ground up. Imagine being on top of a HUGE building you can see all of Vegas from then being shot upwards from there. I was freaking out before we got on. It shoots you up and lets you fall four times. After the third I was ready to be safe on the ground again. It was definitely fun though! I'm glad we got to ride it. That was just about the last thing we did on our trip. We walked back to the hotel and I showered and started packing up while Brent played blackjack for the last time. We got to bed around 4:30 and got two hours of sleep before we had to wake back up to head to the airport.

Tuesday we woke up early and headed straight for McDonalds. Got our breakfast fix and headed for the airport. The flights home weren’t too bad. I seem to be more sensitive to flight than I used to be. I felt motion sickness every time we would take off and land. We ended up back in New Orleans around 4-5ish I think, drove home, and had a good ole’ home cooked meal with twice stuffed baked potatoes..mmMMm.

The trip was GREAT! I’m sure I missed a million details of how much fun we had, but you get the gist. I had a wonderful time and Vegas was more than I had imagined it would be. I can’t wait to go back! We already realized two hotels/casinos that we missed out on accidentally that had really neat features. So, now we HAVE to go back and visit.

Now it’s time to get ready for school to start back up. I’m not dreading it as much as I was. I fixed my schedule just this morning and Brent’s been pumping me up for football season. GO TIGERS!

My family lives up there, so we'll stay with my grandparents. I'm excited though! i LOVE traveling places =) we got ALL our goodies with us..he he, food in the cooler, lots of water, and Brent's lap top to entertain us when we get bored. I'm just about to head over to his house to spend the night so we can wake up EARLY and head straight out of town. Merry Xmas Eve [Dec. 24th, 2002|12:47 pm]
[mood | happy]

Hope everyone has a very merry xmas today and tomorrow. i'm being a bum right now cause i have lots to do the rest of the day and early tomorrow. This evening i have 4 o'clock mass then my family, a few aunts, and brent are eating at my grand roses. Dad is making cincinnati chili..MMmMmmm...we couldn't pass eating that, up! After that Brent and I are exchanging presents =) I can't wait!!!!! it's been a LONG wait, ha ha. I think my present is speakers for my car, and if not that, then some kind of car audio appliance. I could be way off though cause every time i tell someone that i know what it is they chuckle, so maybe he's been tricking me all along..HmMmMmm. after we open presents we're going to his aunt's to have xmas eve over there then back to his house to open all his presents.

Then, tomorrow morning i'm waking up early here so i can open all my presents from Santa. Mrs. jean, Mr. Charles, and brent are coming over to eat a HUGE brunch my dad will cook..MmmMm he makes SUCH good breakfast.

Hope everyone gets what they asked for! i should start getting ready now...byyyyyye
